Everyone gives Meta and Twitter flack for the hellscape that is social media. But you know who else deserves flack? Google. They killed RSS so that everyone would use Google+ for news. Instead, everyone used Facebook and Twiter.

@atomicpoetI'm still using over a dozen RSS feeds. I assure you that the death of RSS has been over exaggerated.

@vik @atomicpoet so true... actually Substack has revived it. They have a way for subscribers to get the posts via rss rather than email if they would prefer.

@vik @atomicpoet I use RSS daily, and apparently mastodon serves RSS feeds if one is inclined to read and not interact with the source. It's a simple enough protocol that stood the test of time, and I almost feel that there will be a resurgence of RSS due to this melon husk birdsite fiasco.

@vik @atomicpoet Same. Use RSS every day. Even to consume ‘social media’ in a calmer way. It works quite nicely, and I can download my feeds and access them offline later.Do you think Google killed RSS, because they killed Google Reader?
