       @gnohdivad It doesn’t need network effects and it’s not attempting to be a viable alternative toTwitter (it’s much more than that). The fediverse isn’t trying to beat Silicon Valley at its own game, it’s playing a different game. Give it a chance, you might enjoy it… and welcome! :)

       we've had short text-based communication tools with ability to share images and videos long before even the internet became popular and the web got built on it.  it was much later that private fenced gardens came up online, and the "innovation" in them has always had more to do with targeted advertising and emotional manipulation than with enabling people to communicate
