I'm still learning how this place works, but already pretty excited. The idea of different servers/instances is confusing, b/c so different from a single private platform. But it creates paths for narrower conversations with targeted groups alongside big, global conversations.

@adamdavidson I'm confused by comments like these. If you run the web interface, it looks EXACTLY like Tweetdeck. You follow people and they show up in your timeline. It looks and acts exactly like the birdsite.

@Ricardus For a n00b it is confusing at first to just understand what it means to sign up with a server and to manage Federated/Local etc. But, yeah, it's more similar than different.

@adamdavidson Yeah. That seems to be a point of confusion for lots. But at the end of the day it doesn't really matter which one you choose, but you can search to find instances that specialize in something you're interested in, etc...I have friends who self host.I have been on SDF for decades so for me it was easy.

@adamdavidson There's tons out there.SDF is a good all around computer nerd instance so I was in the right place.
