One thing that continues to bother me about the UX of the fediverse is that I can either;* have a frictionless experience of following a new account or interacting with their posts (in a fedi app), but only see all their posts if someone on my instance is already following them.OR * see a profile page with a complete timelines of a posts (in a separate browser tab), but then have to login again or copy/paste links to follow or reply. There's no way to have both in one UI.#fediverse

@strypey omg, this! it's really troublesome and also physically painful coz I have hand injury issues. as a Masto newbie i thought i'd either done something wrong or needed to configure differently. thanks for posting this.

@strypey yeah, I only just learned about the whole "copy url of post on other instance and paste it into the search on your instance to engage and interact with the post locally" trick (Thank you @cwebber ! 🙏 ) which has been a goodsend, but it does feel like the process could/ should be automated or streamlined somewhat.

@alienghicThanks for the tip, I'll check it out. Although, newbies are understandably reluctant to install a browser plugin to get a smooth UX across instances. I'd love to see this fixed at a deeper level somehow.

@jdaviescoatesExactly. I get that admins don't really want their instance downloading a complete posting history every time a user looks at a profile page on another instance. But surely there's a way to pull a temporary copy of the last 50 posts or so, while I decide whether to follow or not? Then forget it all after a day if I don't. That's how it works in the browser, and it's all web stuff under the hood, right?@cwebber
