In the last year I wrote a Facebook archive browser called Kyanite, a Friendica archive generator, and a Friendica and Diaspora archive browser. They are written in Dart and Flutter to make them cross platform but since I am primarily on Linux it is Linux desktop first for me. https://myportal.social/

@killyourfm I tried Ardour at the time but unluckily didn't meet my needs, so for the moment I am using Bitwig Studio (not open source). I hope there will be an alternative ableton-like software in the future!

@abde Yep. Bitwig was the only one that really felt comfortable and versatile enough for me to use (as someone who relies mainly on Logic Pro for macOS). It doesn't hurt that the interface is gorgeous.

@killyourfm Yes, while I find it quite expensive, for me it's worth it as the time playing with parameters in Bitwig is really reduced by its confortable interface.When I work in music/art I want to keep apart my computer science side and just focus on creating, so that is really helpful.It also is really well maintained for the moment. Big updates each 2-3 months.

@baspeeters During my time running Linux For Everyone and covering Linux at Forbes, I saw a steady influx of valuable improvements -- mainly surrounding gaming and GPU drivers. I think my only criticism at the moment would be that certain distros equate stability with older versions of software, and that can be a mistake when it comes to security. Know what I mean?

@killyourfm Yeah I know what you mean. More so for distros used for desktop I think, as for example OpenBSD does have its security and stability pinned down insanely well, while probably not so popular as a desktop OS. I guess desktop is a lot about "feel" that maybe needs to be up-to-date with recent things, making it inherently difficult in the context which you're describing.

I also plan on publishing articles about FOSS and privacy both on the LibreNode site (not live yet) and my personal blog. I also have a few Golang libraries in the works, that are going to be released on the LibreNode Gitea instance. @killyourfm I did, for a long time. In the last decade work is uncompatible with bands, sadly. @NiLace I hope you find time to finish some of your songs. A very real sense of existential dread has been creeping up on me, and I KNOW I need to put more effort and time into my own music. It's so cathartic while I'm doing it, but I'm never *happy* enough with my playing or singing.

@NiLace Maybe it's self-doubt, that evil little inner critic that never shuts up. Or it's that the drums don't sound natural enough (I've spent entire days tweaking them since then), or that the overall production quality isn't great to my ears. But as I said a moment ago, your enthusiasm gives me a lot of hope.

@killyourfm Hi Jason, Have you heard of Andrew Neil? He is an outsider artist/songwriter who began writing songs after sustaining a bad head injury in a car crash. He literally started wrting songs out of nowhere. He struugle with serious mental health issues and battled cancer in 2019. His story is inspirational.

I still have my Maxell cassette tapes with early days punk, industrial, and experimental electronic from the 80s and beyond. I keep these in a safe. I digitized the collection but it's not the same. Something raw about tape.

@Songstobe I spent the last half hour reading his bio, watching the micro-documentary, and browsing some of his music. It's beyond inspiring, and i can't believe how prolific he became out of nowhere. It gives ME hope as a songwriter and musician who's never given the craft enough time, that I can still make something of all the songs i have kicking around. Thank your for sharing this.
