@shadowfacts I am deep into the third book right now, and it's amazing. I am going to reread the whole series as soon as I am finished.Gideon is fantastic... And the 2nd book will mess up your mind. And I mean this in a good way.

@cambridgeport90 start Harrow the Ninth or the first one in the series (Gideon the Ninth)? Gideon takes a while to really get going, but if you can muscle through that, it gets really good

@shadowfacts I think what was confusing me is the science fiction and fantasy being a part of the plot at the same time; technology is advanced, yet the characters carry swords. (not that I have a problem with swords... we should all have them!)

@cambridgeport90 ah, yeah. that gets explained (sort of, briefly, as an aside) in the second book. but the first book (and to a larger extent, the series—less the bits about space travel) is really more about the magic

@shadowfacts Magic? I love stuff with magic in it... I'm surprised I missed that when I first tried to read it!

I am concerned that perhaps Nona the Ninth is going to leave as flabbergasted as this one, and perhaps I should have waited until the fourth one came out before starting these books
