@Moon @pixel It was bullshit the moment they started giving it out to people whose only claim to being a public personality came from their Twitter following, and especially from the moment they started taking it away from public personalities they knew were still verifiably who they claimed to be as punishment for wrongthink/wrongtalk.

@guizzy @Moon that is in consideration of verification meaning that someone genuinely is that one person, that's just been the main purpose of it, also why it was (at least after the revamp) harder to get.Twitter getting another revenue stream with selling off a few features in a subscription is not a problem.

@guizzy @pixel @Moon It slowly became a status symbol, and in the end, blue checkmarks, or a select few of them (journos) apparently had access to special blue checkmarks only tools for notes on accounts and other stuffIt stopped being about verification around the time they started removing it from some peopleHell, it's clear they stopped giving a shit about verification at some point. I remember a Love Live VA (Remember, Love Live VAs does general anime VA works, but also Love Live tops Japan's music chart often on top of filling massive concert stadium) was directly whining to Elon once the buyout started happening a few months ago that she still wasn't "verified"
