Have you ever considered buying a desktop/laptop that is shipping with a Linux distro pre-installed?

@boilingsteam I actually never bought PC with Windows. It always was totally clean PC or with pre-installed FreeDos.

@boilingsteam Maybe next time. Right now I am using my lenovo legion with manjaro and it works great. My next laptop is probably a tuxedo.

@boilingsteam Does the #SteamDeck count? It’s technically a laptop without a keyboard and some controllers slapped on πŸ˜‰

@GlowingLantern nope, does not count - I am asking about actual machines sold with a keyboard already attached πŸ˜‰

@boilingsteam I've only really bought new PCs before I started using Linux, so those ran Windows ootb, but now I haven't had to buy any new computers since Linux works on the hardware I have! :tux:πŸ’œFor reference; my latest PC is a used thinkpad t460s if you exclude my desktop which I upgrade from time to time.

@boilingsteam Classifying Raptor CS's gear as "shipping with linux" even though the only way I could remotely afford one is to buy a bare board + CPU, as Linux is realistically the only OS that will run on them

@boilingsteamI haven't bought one yet, but I'm certain my next laptop will be a Linux laptop. My current one is usable, but it has some annoying quirks that, I assume, are caused by bodged drivers. I would like to have a machine that is actually, properly supported.

@boilingsteam i build desktops myself and bought a used thinkpad for 170 euros.also, i use NixOS (btw) and that is not offered pre-installed. i'm comfortable installing an OS myselfalso, computers with linux pre-installed are quite expensive compared to what i use. one benefit would be 100% linux compatible, but that is not an issue i have

@boilingsteam Usually they're much more expensive than other choices, especially because they have to be imported to Norway (25% VAT)So nope

@boilingsteam No, i haven't, but only because I plan on wiping whatever's on the disk and installing a heavily customized Debian or Arch system.

@boilingsteam eys multiple times, but I always did a fresh install. Particularly because, I dislike / don't trust branded distros which (almost?) all seem to have.

@boilingsteam Technicially yes. First thing I do is format and install a distro myself but knowing the device has been tested with Linux matters.
