@strypey @swansinflight Twitter is often either talking into a void or being attacked by trolls. I spend more time curating a block list to keep things relatively tolerable, rather than engaging with people.

@jackyanI've never heard of IFTTT. Can it be used to crosspost from here to a FB account? I'm not highly motivated about it, because I'd have to set up a new FB account, probably under my birth name, and I don't really want to do that.There's a Danyl Strype sock puppet there using a photo of me, but I didn't set it up and I don't control it.@swansinflight @janhenry

@strypey Iʼve not tried from here to Facebook, but I have tried birdsite to Facebook, and that works. I also cross-post from here to the birdsite, so in theory, you could go from here to birdsite to FB. But I understand the low motivation. Facebook is a thing of the past, and itʼs not a priority for me, either. @swansinflight @janhenry

@strypeyIt should be doable with a custom applet in IFTTT. There are a couple that have been created for Mastodon to Twitter, and Mastodon to Dropbox. Or as Jack said, cross post to Twitter first, and then use an IFTTT applet to connect Twitter and FB. @jackyan @swansinflight

@jackyanWhat I realized as I became active here is that unlike putting up a website, posting stuff on a social media platform doesn't automatically make it available all their users. As in the 'verse, you have to spend time interacting with people to get follows and build a network. Even then, on the datafarms your stuff only reaches your network to the degree that their algorithms like it. So crossposting is only worthwhile if it's low effort to set up.@swansinflight @janhenry

@strypey It was easy to set up but I did it in stages over many years, as required. I agree with you about engagement, plus the buggers cheat. For @lucire we were getting very good organic reach until one day in 2012, when Facebook intentionally broke it, to force page owners to pay. Reach plummeted 90 per cent and never recovered. My feeling was we would stop caring about getting eyeballs via that site. I wasnʼt about to part with hard-earned cash to give to them. @swansinflight @janhenry
