When I joined #mastodon, I just wanted an open-source #twitter clone.I got more than that. Subtle design differences made for healthier conversations in ways I wasn't expecting. Here's a blog post to try to capture those differences and why they matter. https://scott.mn/2022/10/29/twitter_features_mastodon_is_better_without/

@graue I am still learning how to use Mastodon, I have to say what you wrote makes sense. However, I am still not convinced by the missing "quote" feature. On Twitter I use to post interesting links by quoting the original author's tweet (to give credit to him), and adding a short quote from the article itself. This will not be possible here 🤔

@graue this was very interesting and I agree with all of it. I joined about five years ago, but I only came in a couple of times a year until earlier this year. It wasn't until the last couple of weeks that I really learned how to get the benefit of the interface. In particular searching by # has been great, and I found a lot of interesting users and content.

@lmc Wow, I just noticed your join date. Early adopter! It's amazing to me how long this thing has been around.

@graue I joined early, but really didn't use it until this year; it was hard for me to wrap my head around how it all worked. I've been on Twitter since 2007, so I have a pretty wide variety of interests covered there I'd like to find the same thing without some of the downsides here or elsewhere.

@lmc @graue I have been on Twitter since 2009. It used to be a very healthy place, but that was ages ago. I admit that I am still in my “testing” phase with Fediverse because Twitter is THE place for all the things I am interested in. All the companies that I want to follow are on Twitter and it is difficult to let go.However, I have been having a healthier time since I switched the official app with TweetBot. Why? Because it lacks features. Features that add the unhealthy.

@DarthChillash @lmc @graue This place is far better, far more pleasant, dare I say "comfy"? than Twitter has been for probably the better part of a decade.
