If I post #introduction and #twittermigration do people see those outside my own instance? Do tags migrate? I'm curious. I created my account long time ago in mastodon years, but obviously I'm also part of the influx migration as much as anyone.

@remotevoices yes and yes. Also, this site has some great tips on using Mastodon and other Fediverse apps. https://fedi.tips/ you can also look at this hashtag, #FediTips

Great to let people know about the FediTips tag, but best to leave off the # (like I did there) unless the post itself is actually a tip, otherwise we risk flooding #FediTips with posts promoting itself. Very meta, but... ;) @blindscribe

@Coffee Hmm. I'm pretty sure unlisted posts are still included in hashtag searches. This post is unlisted, can you see it if you click on #fediverse ?@blindscribe

@CoffeeI think this is poor design. Because it means there's no way to post something niche for people interested enough to do a hashtag search, without spamming all your followers with it, your post feed on your profile page, your Local timeline, and Federated timelines all over the show. Or am I missing something?@blindscribe

@strypey Interesting. You seem to be on a standard Mastodon instance. Does your web interface not warn you when you use hashtags in an unlisted post?@blindscribe

@strypey Hello, new here. There's so much silly stuff behind that tag, I wasn't sure if it's intended to be a satire tag or not.

@CoffeeI use third-party apps (Pinafore and FediLab) and no, they don't. I suspect the visibility of hashtags in unlisted posts has been downgraded at some point, and we (me and the devs of those apps) haven't yet caught up.@blindscribe
