Not a surprise: when Apple claims they "support" older versions of the operating system, it is not true https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2022/10/apple-clarifies-security-update-policy-only-the-latest-oses-are-fully-patched/(It has consequences for hardware obsolescence since old devices cannot always upgrade to the latest version of the operating system.)

@bortzmeyer I so confirm my old hardwares cannot upgrade anymore (they did for 10 years though )They are still working fine and make me nervous. Are their efficient ways to switch to Linux (macbook, iMac)?

@bortzmeyer My trusty old iMac has been supported for a long time. Ordered in 2009 with macOS 10.6, it was supported until 10.13.16 (nov. 2020) and still receive critical security fixes from time to time. Same thing for iOS devices which are supported way longer than the competition.

@bortzmeyer Absolutely. I have a perfectly functional (in terms of hardware, battery, etc.) iPod and iPad, which are now dead ends in terms of OS and therefore application upgrades. Apple is not at all interested in protecting the customer’s investment.#Sustainability #Obsolescence
