#Suggestion: Point #TwitterMigration to the Fediverse so not everyone is flocking to a Mastodon instance. You see, the network is the #Fediverse, the underlying tech is #ActivityPub (which is a #WebStandard).Mastodon is, but one of many flavours connected to the Fediverse network. There is no “Mastodon network” or "Pleroma network” or “MissKey network”, they are all “Fediverse network”.Promote the Fediverse. That is what who we are.

@eloraraymond Aye.(1/n) What's happening currently is everyone who wants to move away from Twitter are searching for Mastodon because it is what they see, what is talked about, and what's being suggested. The truth is, Mastodon is only one software (or platform) for what is inaccurately called "Mastodon network". The network is called "Fediverse".The underlying technology in Mastodon is #ActivityPub. ActivityPub is the #WebStandard that guides software developers on how to interconnect.

@eloraraymond (2/n) That said, there are other software using ActivityPub, such as, but not limited to, #Pleroma and #MissKey. They are connected to the same network Mastodon is connected to… the #Fediverse network. The incorrectly called "Mastodon network" is not about Mastodon, rather it is about the Fediverse.Unfortunately, many are using Mastodon instead of Fediverse in Twitter-land. Nothing wrong with that, but there are disadvantages, if we can call it that.

@eloraraymond (6/n) If users were directed to "Fediverse" instead of "Mastodon", it could've:1. Spread out mass migration to more servers.2. Those who left thinking "that's it ?" or "This is not for me", probably would've discovered they like the other software/platform, and stayed, and gave good word for the Fediverse network.3. Those who'll never use Mastodon anyway would've saved time if they found the other options in the first place. (And saved admins from a growing database.)

@eloraraymond (3/n) Now, People are searching only for "Mastodon". 70,000 people created accounts on various Mastodon servers (primariry those with "mastodon" in their domain names; and especially mastodon.social -- the flagship server). This led to the following:1. Overwhelmed Mastodon servers.1.a. People will think "Mastodon", and the "Fediverse" itself, is not capable of handling the load.1.b. There is only one server.

@eloraraymond (5/n) 3. There are those who'll never stay with any Mastodon-powered server because they prefer another software/platform.3.a. They created an account in various Mastodon-powered servers, only to abandon it later, because they like Pleroma, MissKey, or Friendica better.

@eloraraymond (4/n) 2. There are those who doesn't like the UI/UX.2.a. They leave. Share their experience elsewhere. It not only affects Mastodon, the software, but the entire Fediverse network.2.b. They leave without being aware that there are other options like Pleroma and MissKey.(aside: Personally, Pleroma is more like Twitter in UI and UX.)

@pthenq1 Of course, devs will promote their own. I'm referring to us regular users. While some have chosen their preferred platform, there are those who are more about the protocol than the platform but haven't realized Mastodon is only one of many platforms for the ActivityPub protocol (or Fediverse network).Devs are excused, especially the founding devs. But us users, this is how we can help. 😉
