Am I the only neurodivergent here who is baffled by people constantly telling you they are sorry? I know it's the correct social thing to do when you're at a funeral and such, and if you've gone through something bad, but it still makes me uncomfortable. My brain just wants to scream "IT WASN'T YOUR FAULT, WHY ARE YOU APOLOGIZING?!?!?!?"#Aspergers #neurodivergent

@Ricardus I am Canadian so I am used to it to such a degree that I notice when people*aren't* saying sorry when you expect them to 😜

@Ricardus A lot of people seem to dislike it nowadays. I prefer to say "my condolences" as it's both more accurate to what I mean and seems to be received better.

@Ricardus While I'm not sure whether I'm neurodivergent, it also bugs me. I eventually realized that I had misunderstood the word "sorry". Its meaning is a much broader than I had previously thought. While it is often used to indicate contrition during an apology, it can also just mean sadness or sympathy. When I'm offering sympathy, I've settled on "I'm sorry to hear that."

@Ricardus I go through the same thing. Externally, I just say thank you. It's tough.
