@newt @Mek101 I will discontinue using Discord once there is a single concrete reason that it could be bad privacy wise. They don't sell ads and don't use any kind of tracking.

@nuclear With the code being closed source how can one be sure about there being no tracking ? Not to mention whatever else the software may be doing. I look at it as what reason do I have to trust Discord where some say they have no reason not to. You do you at the end of the day.

@PublicLewdness That's a pretty weak argument. You can make it about pretty much any software whose source code is not public, and anyway, even if it is, there is no guarantee that what runs on the server is the same. We have a lot of tools to make the code that runs on our machines do what we want though.

@nuclear I do make that argument about any software I use. I don't force it on others, only abide by it myself unless there are no FOSS options. As I said you do you.

@PublicLewdness You could apply this to Mastodon too (unless you're running your own instance). Sometimes FOSS software is also dangerous to privacy, for example Matrix automatically sends a lot of data to all peers in the chatrooms you join and there's no easy way to make them delete that sensitive data. I find Discord to be much more privacy friendly than Matrix, because it's a single host that can be made to export or delete my data if I wish.
