Wow... a lot of servers are being very slow right now! I guess more even more people are signing up on here 😮 Mastodon.social and mastodon.online are being hammered especially hard.Don't panic if your server seems unresponsive, this isn't normal on here, it's a temporary thing due to the influx of new members continuing to grow.Normally there's a steady stream of new members and the servers work fine. This is an unusual unprecedentedly large event 😅

@below@mastodon.social @feditips@mstdn.social @homegrown@social.growyourown.services too big instances are incredibly hard to moderate so the local timeline can easily be very uncomfortable, it also can lead to much more often performance issues server side when you're on a server with too many people, etc.

@feditips but.... I came over here... I guess I will have to figure out how to change servers at some point then... cause I came here BECAUSE it was the biggest. I am the first of my friends to come over and I am trying to learn as much as I can before I talk about it on my stream tomorrow....

@feditips @homegrownadding to the post: or even tell them there are other software options, not only Mastodon :blobcatgooglyshrug: I understand it might seem easier to switch from Twitter to Mastodon because they're most similar to each other but other platforms have a plenty of nice additional options such as emoji reacts or a bigger symbol limit (like most Mastodon servers set the limit on 500 symbols while mine set it on 65535 symbols and it's very nice to be able to post long statuses :02smile: ) or post formatting (this part gets especially advanced with Misskey and Akkoma)

@TheRyeLynn @feditips Kinda but not really, i have about 700 follows and 900 followers so convos just come to my main home timeline if i post something or see someone posting something. You don't have to go into the federated network to find new people, normally if you follow people they will repeat people they know, so you will find their posts too.Once you follow someone, their posts appear on your main timeline, no matter what their server is.
