@gamingonlinux random question, any chance of working with @tilvids to get your curated content on #peertube ? Completely understand if you don't feel like it's worth the work, but TILVids is doing a great job pulling in some quality content and I know I'd at least love to see your stuff with it.

@gamingonlinux @ozoned Understand, running channels is hard. Fortunately with the latest @joinpeertube update, you can synchronize your YouTube channel, which will then automatically sync and pull in content from YouTube. Hopefully will make it much easier for creators to support decentralized platforms, while still utilizing their current mediums, without much extra effort.

@tilvids @ozoned @joinpeertube You don't have adverts though right? That's like 99% of the point of doing YouTube and where now half our revenue comes from - so if you don't have any good built-in ways and we have to rely on external stuff, it's simply not worth it.

@gamingonlinux @ozoned @joinpeertube As a creator myself, I get it. Making content is an enormous amount of work that your viewers rarely sympathize with. Ultimately though, at some point I just decided the world deserves better than what YouTube, Facebook, and others have done to our society with ads.

@gamingonlinux @ozoned @joinpeertube I pay for a huge portion of server costs for TILvids out of pocket. It takes a massive amount of work to keep it working, promote it, administer it, etc. I have no monetary prospects for the site, I will eventually convert it to a not-for-profit that is completely run by a community board.

@gamingonlinux @ozoned @joinpeertube I'm not doing it because I want to make money, I'm doing it because it's the right thing to do. Some creators agree with that position, others don't. It is what it is, we all have to make our choices about what is important to us in life. At some point, trying to leave the world better than Google and Meta are doing became more important to me.

@gamingonlinux @ozoned @joinpeertube And FWIW, I would never tell a creator that they need to, or even should leave YouTube. Everyone has different financial situations. You can support alternatives simply by making your content additionally available there. Which is why I mentioned the synchronization feature, which lets you set up a channel, turn on the sync option, and not have to do any further maintenance. In that way, you're supporting an alternative without sacrificing anything.

However, the people seeking alternatives are already subverting the ads there. This is a no-brainer. You’re not losing an audience. You’re only gaining one here.

@jahanson @tilvids @ozoned @joinpeertube the point isn’t just to have an alternative, i would also need to effectively monitor it, moderate comments and the list goes on while nurturing another community.Last time i tried such a thing, the people running it turned out to be terrible people (hi LBRY).

@gamingonlinux @jahanson @ozoned @joinpeertube Before starting TILvids, I considered LBRY and decided against it, largely for the same reason. I came to a similar conclusion with general instance PeerTube instances, which is why I started my own based around edutainment content. The community now fortunately helps moderate comments as we've grown.Like I said, it's ultimately up to creators to decide where to put their energy. I respect everyone's decision, even if it differs from mine.

It's up to everyone to determine where they want to invest their time.The quota error you're seeing is because by default, I've set users to have no upload permissions (to keep a tight curation on the site content).
