"#WordPress wants to be the Operating System for the Web. That OS is missing social features, and it’s not a big leap to add them with existing web protocols. No website owner would have to be a coder, be it home cooking style or professional, to use those social features and create conversations. It would just be there. If you build WP Themes, if you create Gutenberg blocks, you’re invited to help make this happen."#indieweb https://www.zylstra.org/blog/2022/09/wordpressindieweb-as-the-os-of-the-open-social-web/

@tchambers Great post. I very much agree with the idea that a better "social" media starts with individuals owning their online presences and profiles. The current plugins work well but it's not perfect with a theme that does not natively support Microformats, Webmentions, and similar.

@tchambers Great blog post! I was a little behind on microformats and Gutenberg Block concept. I didn't realize microformats had evolved to be consisting just of class names inside HTML tag structures. Very cool! Anyway the concept of making CMSes become the backbone for the web, instead of just arbitrary HTML is the key, and is a primary goal of my Quanta[.wiki] platform as well.

@tchambers One more thing...The concept of being able to dangle an entire conversation thread off of any arbitrarily small piece of content, down to the paragraph level of granularity (and have the CMS itself just automatically allow that) is perhaps THE key innovation in Quanta. Quanta itself isn't getting much traction because I never promote it *and* it's too hard to learn/use, but people like you who "get it" are carrying forward these design principles better than I ever did. I just hope to be helping push the ball down the field in the right direction, because I know my ideas are good, and are the future.

@tchambers Plus of course, the Wordpress plugins that let it use ActivityPub to interact with the fediverse.
