       A very important learning opportunity today is seeing how many people struggle conceptually with things like mastodon. This isn't just the weird jargon (it is bad though!) but the complexity of the system. It's not a fault of mastodon but something that comes with that approach.

       I do wonder if email - were it established today - would face the same issues? Did people just learn to add the magic server part without thinking? I think it's more because with federated social networks the connections between content are so much more complex.

       I do think that federated systems are great. I also think that they probably need some form of "central" interface for most people to interact with them with some people moving on to "advanced mode".

       @tante mastodon.social ist doch faktisch das "central interface". aber ehrlich ich denke das problem wird massiv überschätzt. twitter ist auch super abschreckend am anfang. die leute sinds halt nur gewöhnt inzwischen.

       @benni Ich habe heute diversen Leuten per DM helfen/Dinge erklären müssen und das sind keineswegs technikferne Leute. Das hier ist mental signifikant komplexer und ich glaube es hilft wenig so zu tun als sei das nicht so.
