       I've been checking news articles or news on tv very carefully for any mention of #Mastodon when it's about Twitter, TruthSocial, Gab or maybe even Parler but it's not very often mentioned..Big news outles like to post how bad mainstream social media are but they don't offer an alternative. I mean, how many people know that TruthSocial & Gab are build of the Mastodon software? We don't want anything to do with them ofc! But something positive about social media is also very welcome I guess

       @stux yeah and in my interpersonal communication class the prof is fucken *always* bringing up social media and she makes it very clear she means Instagram and Twitter specificallypeople seem to think that "social media" means explicitly "capitalist algorithm where people are trying to get as many likes as possible in the hopes that someone will pay them $20 to post about a product"

       @stux in Germany, Mastodon is also advertised by a quite well-known tv presenter. He and his team have set up their own open instance det.social. The bird used to be seen in the intro of the tv show, now it's the mastodon logo. (ZDF Magazin Royale - Jan Böhmermann - if you're interested - not sure if the content is available in your country)
