Today would have been my HS best friend’s 54th birthday. I’ve celebrated it without him for the past 32 years because he felt he had no where else to turn and took his own life. Mental issues are real, people. If you know someone who is struggling with depression, talk to them, Urge them to get the help they need. I don’t wish the sadness I feel every year at this time on anyone. Happy birthday Rat! I miss you.

@obihahn Damn man....we are dealing with that now. A young man at HR #1's HS just killed himself. The school district had so many resources for him, but still happened. Admins must be racking their brains on how they missed signals etc, but we MUST get rid of the stigma of asking for help. I preach to my HRs that 1-struggling is normal and happens in life. 2-It is OK to NOT be OK. 3-Asking for help is a sign of strength not weakness.

@obihahnI'm so sorry for your loss, and I'll be praying for you this week. I know the struggle of walking with a friend through depression and suicidal impulses, and it's a tough journey.
