@sim @opal @awl Well put it this way; if you're not anywhere near that community it's going to shock you but the furry fandom is worse than the other groups, so I'll explain why it's so bad.The first reason is obvious if you’re an outsider. Much of the fandom is politically left leaning, and those who were previously are so loud that they can basically shout down anyone who doesn’t go along. This is possible because a lot of the fandom consists of pushovers who want to avoid confrontation and just want to coom or e-fame/friends, which means that just like Patrick Bateman and others in American Psycho they will do anything to stay in the “in” group. So many people wound up having to say the lines enough to the point they believed them to keep their online friend circle. It didn’t help many didn’t have any solid political views (see O’Sullivan’s Law)To make matters worse, the resistance to this was either half ironic or full of people who just wanted to run chats for “right wing furries” that couldn’t wrangle their tards (and turned out to be tards themselves). Imagine a furry chat that sounded like NCD or Poast but with a side of wanting to fuck furry guys in between posts about wanting to kill all the blacks. Oh and the owners are a diaper fetishist, a dude writing fanfiction about Nazis boning furries, a Hispanic pedophile/zoophile larping as furry hitler, and edgelords rejected from /pol/ (including one who was actually in Richard Spencer’s crew and requiring dox to join his chats). This was obviously not a good thing for optics, but it was clear that these people just wanted to cause chaos because even chat leaks daily didn’t deter them. On the other hand, everyone in the right wing was literally laughing at both sides like girls. There’s also the “everyone has blackmail on each other” theory mentioned on Kiwi Farms and similar places discussing the fandom which is 100% true. Many left wing furries believe in no bad tactics and I’ve heard of them harassing the families/workplaces of other furries, usually by outing their fetishes to their families and whatnot since they know either nobody will do it to them or their family already disowned them anyway.But there’s something more obscure and this is why the fandom is the way it is; the fandom has barely any creative scene. This is going to come as a shock to people who aren’t in the fandom and think “oh cool it has art and fursuits”, but here’s the thing. There aren’t a lot of furries creating or writing some big story or video game. They want to be in there so people pay attention to them, and a few years ago I made a group chat extra angry when I critiqued how the fandom has more consoomers than creators. The same goes with the uncomfortable truth that the barrier of entry is so low, that anyone can join if it’s trendy. Look, Zoe Quinn made a fursona and got furry art. That tells you everything IMO. This is also in part due to the fact that unlike being an anime fan, you don’t have to watch some TV show or be a fan of something to be a furry.Because it’s decentralized and has no focus, a bunch of right wing furries could overrun it like the MLP fandom and make the left wing ones scared shitless (which happened with the Applejack Plantation image or that Nazi pony character from /mlp/, something that couldn’t have the same effect in the furry fandom IMO). Of course the media would whine about them to levels that made the 2017 Nazi scare look like a total joke. There are a lot of left-wing furries in big tech who would burn everything or try to before letting the “bad people” take over the fandom but yet the decentralization aspect of the fandom would mean that they can only do so much before say, banned furries start using Inkbunny more or run their own art site or use the fedi.Oh, and the coomers and similar types don’t want normal acceptance but rather left wing acceptance. They want the entire world to cave to them without having to act like a normal person.

A lot of those big projects are tough to do and execute properly, your chances of failure increase tenfold with every additional step you make. I admittedly do that type of art since it is fun, it is straightforward with zero roadbumps from start to finish and it is easy to share.In contrast, whenever I do a game, all momentum is stopped whenever I get stuck on a bug. Nothing is more demotivating than importing a model with broken animations, textures, and bones into Godot. It is worse when you do it alone with zero input or are too unskilled to tailor the project into what you really want to make. I completed some of my games, but I hate all of them and I feel embarrassed to show them to people.I think a real solution would be to form a creative "big project" community where likeminded people/friends share big projects like games or generalist stuff. There has to be daily updates as well.That is how the furry VN scene grew over time. They promote other projects and gave advice to each other, keeping up to date on their progress.

It’s because the fur fandom was so accepting that it’s such a fucking mess today. Being open and accepting led to pathological openness, and the lowest common denominator of people flooded in.
