I think I'm just not able to enjoy alcohol in moderation. Once I start drinking, it gets me going, then my self control drops sharply and I tend to go overboard. :feelslainman:Any tips for this that are not "not drinking at all"? (Even though that could be the best option after all.)

@grips I am or was the same way. I would advise sticking to low alcohol content drinks, if you must drink

@ComfyGuy Perhaps, I've never set a limit for myself. But it begs the question of how not to break that rule.

@grips alcohol is absolutely unnecessary in our lives, if you have a problem with it the best really is to stop drinking

@grips the only thing that has helped me is just trying my hardest to listen to the little voice in my head that tells me to stop. It takes a long time but the more you think about it the easier it will be to one day say "y'know what? I'm done for tonight". Once you break the habit once it'll be much much easier each time.

@KonataWagner1066 @grips agree, only buy a single 6 pack of bud light or something a week, once you go through it you don't get more until the next week. It's important to have friends to hold you accountable also. Tell them when you start slipping and when you fall, not so they can yell at you but because reaching out helps you not feel like you're doing it alone.

@grips make failing a kind of success. If you go overboard, donate (extensively, not a little) to the charity of your choice. Make it hurt.Or, make a net to land in. Go overboard but only in a time and place that causes the least harm.Or, redirect going overboard into some other activity. Many drinkers switched to running. Or, for every drink you pour down your neck, pour the same drink down the toilet. Makes the habit 2x as expensive and 1/2 as enjoyable.

@grips One thing which more or less works for me is having a glass of water between drinks. This takes me from 3 or 4 drinks in a night to 1 or 2.It also helps stave off kidney stones.
