But I would assume that they'll try it at some point.Essentially, some small creator makes offensive shirt, say that WaifuWatchers guy.His total income from the shirts is 3k, but he needs 2k to make the shirt, so he 'immediately' (i.e. After several months of PP being gay) removes 2k.Then he gets reported. PP investigates, finds it 'offensive', then charges 2500 for each shirt, causing him to have a negative balance.PP then blocks his account and files legal paperwork to sue him for the funds.This'll be great for PP because they'll eat up all the small people super fast and the mid-level people selling those damned hats with stars might try to 'comply' with it only to get completely fucked in the end after giving PP more money despite the starred hat seller bein' a good boi who dindu nuffin. He was just on his way to church.

If you have $2500 in the paypal account when they fine you, they will take that money immediately. If you do not, whatever amount you do not have will be made a negative balance on the account. Any payments you receive in paypal after that point will go towards paying the negative balance, and they will put you in collections to resolve it.

@chudbere @matty @Jim I’d lightly assume that’s true just to be safe, but I would bet that it will only be the Balance. Paypal is able to play it VERY loose with how they treat money while it’s in their hands, they aren’t beholden to the same regs as banks, so they’re quick to lock it up and freeze it for any number of silly reasons. I’d expect it to be the same. Either way their fees have made it a very poor choice of funding, nearly all the people I know using it have moved to stuff like zelle, for better or worse. At least that’s safer in terms of bank-to-bank payments. I’ll still buy ebay/used stuff with paypal because their customer shielding is insane, you’ll rarely lose a dispute as buyer.

I know I’ve heard a couple of small time businesses got ejected from the network because they were in a ‘high risk industry’, despite the fact one was selling t shirts, the other surf gear, and the other repair work. Supposedly it was the clientele, so if you have a lot of naughty people paying you money through there they might shut your account down with a month’s notice. Not sure how true, that’s just what I heard from friends/friends of friends. As long as you have a backup ready for such an eventuality you’ll be okay.

@Jim Paypal was always risky and predatory. I've had friends on the up and up get robbed, even folks that eventually got it back got fucked. If you run a small business, suddenly being short $10,000 for a couple of months can fuck you really hard, to say nothing of the break in payment processing.I'm not a big regulation guy as a rule, but Paypal needs to be wrangled. With the change in the 1099 threshold, there is zero advantage to the user in letting them run free.
