It's a funny thing, my music posts are, far and away, the least popular of my posts. I wonder why. Wrong choices? Wrong audience? 😉 Wrong place for music?

@fitheach Some of my #music-related posts get lots of reactions, other don't. I don't actually think about it a lot, I post what I find interesting and if someone else likes it, fine. If not, I can live with that, too. What I find very relaxing and positive in the fediverse is that it doesn't feed you with "likes" the way other platforms do.

@fitheach Define popularity? Consider that if your music posts are popular, the user will click on a link and go listen, and then likely forget to return to the original post.Obviously I'm speaking only for myself 😁

@andijah If I'm in the pub, and I'm chattering away about a particular subject which gets no reaction, then I'll either change the subject or shut up. I consider Fedi to be the same.

@fitheach okay, that's an analogy I can follow. In my world, maybe on Sunday, no one in the pub wants to talk about music, but on Monday, someone does. And one week later it might be the other way round. So I never know, and I like this "unpredictability".

@thelovebug Comments, Favourites or Boosts. Clearly, I have no idea about clicks. The other factor I forgot to mention is timing. If you make a post when others either aren't about or are diverted by other things, you are much less likely to get a reaction. However, my music posts are consistently less popular. So, not likely to be timing.

@andijah Yup, timing is important. However, my music posts consistently get much less reaction. I can't think that I always get the timing wrong.

@fitheach That's completely fair.I've been absent from the Fediverse for a while (it's a cyclical thing), so I don't think I've seen your music posts recently. Is it your actual music, or promotion of others'?

@fitheach I see. I don't always react visibly to people's posts, maybe that's part of the "problem". Other people might do this, too.

@thelovebug Oh, Heavens, no. I don't have the talent for making music. My choices of Classical, Folk, Metal & Traditional. A case of "I'm listening to this, maybe you like it, too".I never post links to YT, or similar, maybe that is part of the problem.

@fitheach Die toss. It's a lot about timing it to the "audience". Fx. right now, Europe is awake, but likely at their jobs, toiling away.People in Europe get back from work around 1600-1800 CET. America only just wakes up around that time.

@fitheach @neglesaks 'You like my music. I like my music '. I suspect it's as simple as that. Plus it takes time to click through and listen.

@fitheach Different reaction type? I mean, when I read a music post that I don't disregard totally, it's either "hey, they're into the same group I'm quite into", which might get a fave/boost, or it's "let's listen to this later". By the time the latter would result in a "like" response, the original post is most likely waaaaay down the timeline anyway.

@fitheach I almost never click on music videos when I'm browsing Masto, because most of the time I either don't have the bandwidth for video, am not in the mood for music or it's not the time for audio (either partner is asleep and my headphones out of reach, or too lazy to plug them in, or or or).Sometimes I bookmark them for later, but like most bookmarks, they're rarely looked at :)

@mhd Yeah, I agree, the "I'll deal with this later" factor has a lot to do with it.It would be interesting to hear from others that post music, if they get a similar (non) response.
