       @pleasesaybye I want to be the first to say that I fucking hate Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream, as ice cream. I have always hated it, even when I was a young lefty.First, I will point out that you can buy vanilla Ben and Jerry's. Nobody does that, but you can do it. It's not great, but it's not atrocious. One who wishes to confirm what I am about to say is encouraged to buy a pint of vanilla Ben and Jerry's and a pint of any of their candy-ish flavors. The scheme for Ben and Jerry's has always been to add piles and piles of candy to the ice cream so you do not realize how mediocre the ice cream itself is. Chunky Monkey, Phish Food, and Cherry Garcia are well known examples. These are some of their most popular flavors.Contrast with Haagen Daas, Blue Bell, or (if you are from the best state in the US) Braums. Each of these comes in standard flavors - vanilla, chocolate, strawberry. You can pick up varied flavors of these (Rum Raisin, Cookies n' Cream), but they are not the flagships. These brands pride themselves in putting forth a good ice cream, rather than their ability to sling shit into their ice creams.Ice cream that is good will put forth its vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, or perhaps a singular off-flavor (cream, amaretto...). There will be a singular clear note, and you will know that it is good ice cream because there is no confusion. Ben and Jerry's ice cream is the author of ice cream confusion - they obscure their mediocre ice cream with a cacophony of waffle cones and caramel, candy bars and cherries. There is no good to be had there.
