@slash@cdrom.tokyo Yes, I have a NB Miata which does not have popups anyway.

@SuperDicq I would have trouble springing for a miata that can’t wink, but I would also have trouble for a miata because I can’t drive manual.

@slash@cdrom.tokyo Automatic ones exist, but they are rare. Also not recommended because manual is so much more fun.Honestly the NB is a good car. It's almost the exact same car as the original, but newer and better. Except no popups which is a shame.

@SuperDicq I’m probably not worthy of a sports car that isn’t already past its prime anyway, judging by the state of my impreza in spite of my efforts to keep it from critical issues.

@slash@cdrom.tokyo Let me guess what's wrong with your Impreza, leaking head gaskets?

@SuperDicq that’s been my fear every time but no evidence of it yet. It goes through oil really damn fast though. I don’t know where it’s going, I can’t afford to know, but the intervals before the oil level light pops on have decreased and now I think about an oil change every 1200 miles to keep myself from having a roadside situation where I put more in. All sorts of other maintenance stuff too. I had an early 00s pontiac before this and that car almost never had an issue aside from brake calipers. This one I run into one or two issues a year reliably.

@slash@cdrom.tokyo Hmm weird. On old Subaru's it is almost always head gaskets. If you want a reliable car a Miata is not a bad choice at all. They are probably the most reliable sports car you can buy.

@SuperDicq We can get rough winters where I live and my job is the type where I am not able to call out due to weather, so I got the impreza for the AWD. I’m kind of at the point where if I end up in another vehicle I’d rather it be one of the older jeeps or even a cheap truck with 4WD. That looked affordable not too long ago, though it’s getting a lot less affordable recently.

@slash@cdrom.tokyo I've owned my Miata for 6 years now and been to probably over 20 track/drift events with it with regular maintenance and no breakdowns, so I'm pretty much convinced these engines and drivetrains are bullet proof.

@slash@cdrom.tokyo Oh yeah, that makes sense, Miata is not a very good winter car. Jeeps are going up in value a lot, so I think your best bet is just drive this Subaru until it break down and just get a new Subaru. A Toyota Celica is also a good 4wd option.

@slash@cdrom.tokyo I go out with my Miata during winter to go drifting in snowy parking lots. But actually getting to places while it is snowing is sketchy as fuck with a high revving engine, RWD on tiny wheels and being super low to the ground.

@SuperDicq Yeah, I tend to be pretty alright maintaining control in snow and ice, but in the grand am I did occasionally slide offroad or into a curb and got lucky. That’s assuming I actually have the power to get the wheels moving in the first place though, and I’d rather have to worry less about that when I’m headed in or out of work. It’s unfortunate that limits my options so much.
