I just added 2 Crucial DDR4 3.2GHz (8GB) sticks to a computer that already had 2 ADATA DDR4 3200MHz RAM sticks (8 GB each). I made sure that other than brand, everything would be the same (PC4-25600 and other stuff). Reason for brand change is that I cannot find any more of the same ADATA sticks. Here is the computers behaviour according to RAM installed:1. ADATA + Crucial: Boot loop2. ADATA only: 16GB Dual channel 3200MHz3. Crucial only: 16GB dual channel 2133MHz1/2

I did some digging and learned that Crucial RAM may use 2133MHz for compatibility. What I am curious of is why the heck would a RAM stick use lower speed for compatibility. We know that this motherboard supports 3200MHz. It had been running at 3200MHz since the day it was bought.Other specs:Acer Predator prebuildCPU: Intel i7 11700FGPU: Nvidia 3060TiDon't tell me to change the XMP profile. There is no such thing in this BIOS.2/2

@murtezayesil PC3200 (commonly referred to as DDR400) memory is DDR designed for use in systems with a 200MHz front-side bus (providing a 400 MT/s data transfer rate). The "3200" refers to the module's bandwidth (the maximum amount of data it can transfer each second), which is 3200MB/s, or 3.2GB/s. PC3200 is backward-compatible for PC1600, PC2100, and PC2700https://uk.crucial.com/support/memory-speeds-compatability

@murtezayesil I think it might be something related to JEDEC, it might be possible to configure RAM yourself to fully utilize it.

@murtezayesil It seems as though it was done so they could phase out older RAM while ensuring new sticks could be used in older boards (According to that post on their site). I'm just guessing here but maybe to run at 3200MHz on an older board the RAM needs to be the same. Perhaps it's the combo that is somehow throwing it off for some reason.

@murtezayesil The only troubleshooting tip i can think of, what i would try is:Remove all old RAM sticks, boot with the new Crucial RAM and see if by itself it runs at 3200MHz.If not, maybe your mobo doesn't like it.

I did run it with only crucial ram sticks (2 of 8GB for a total of 16GB) and only then it booted with crucial ram sticks. If you mean by installing only 1 of the crucial sticks, I didn't test it.@prickle

@murtezayesil Hmmm, if it's a paired set of RAM it should be running at 3200MHz since the board supports it.I only have two slots in my mini-PC and laptop and run Crucial DDR4 3200MHz. They are paired sets i bought for them. The only other thing i can think of is the slots they are in to run dual channel. Those should be easy to figure out from mobo manufacturer. It's been awhile since i ran a large desktop PC but remember dual channel needed to be installed in a certain way with 4 slots.

BIOS is only for viewing list of installed and recognized hardware in easy mode and for changing boot order, SATA mode, time and date in "advanced mode".@danct12

After contacting support, they accepted to do full refund. It turns out, it is not actually 3200MHz but supports overclocking upto 3200MHz. This is not mentioned anywhere on the packaging, product or product page. This is false advertising. At least say "this product works as advertised on motherboards with XMP support".Imagine a CPU was advertised such that only its overclockable speed mentioned as if it was the base clock speed. This is the same.@prickle

@murtezayesil Ahhhh, i'm glad to hear you got to the bottom of it. Yeah that's kind of messed up.Generally i really like Crucial as a company and only use their RAM.I've also got a 2TB P5 Plus SSD in my mini-pc made by them. Thing is fast as hell. That's cool they will refund, it really is their fault on that one for the misleading packaging.

@murtezayesil From what i recall is it was slots 1 and 3 for dual channel. If you have a board with 8 slots, then i absolutely have no clue as i've never had one.

I just plugged them as the ADATA RAMs were installed (slot 2 and 4 assuming closest to the CPU as slot1).I don't have the budget for tinkering with server hardware yet.@prickle

@murtezayesil Understood. I'm on a fixed income and it takes me awhile to save and buy things.I have a sweet mini-PC with an AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX that came with Crucial RAM.I pulled those two 16GB sticks and threw them in my laptop to replace off brand RAM. Replaced RAM in mini PC with 2 32GB sticks of Crucial and the fast P5 Plus SSD as well as a Western Digital Blue 2TB SSD that is SATA on the other open slot. It's far less expensive than a desktop, 8 cores / 16 threads and low power.

After digging deeper in the web to decide on something tried and tested by other owners of same prebuild rather "should work", I decided to give Crucial another go. This time it is a pair of 8GB naked RAM. Naked as in there is no fancy cover.Initially they made high pitch error sound at boot. After moving them to different slots, they work in dual channel along with ADATA RAMs 😀Crucial s box doesn't say it but these are definitely JEDEC.@prickle @danct12

@murtezayesil @danct12 Interesting. That's nice it worked out in the end. It's been a long time (a decade at least) since i've built a full desktop. I went through a few laptops and now run a mini-pc. I just like the low power, quiet but capable aspect of what i'm using. It's a newer mini-pc i finally switched to.

@murtezayesil @danct12 In the 1990's - 2010 or so i ended up building hundreds of desktops over several generations, both AMD and Intel. For myself, family, friends and at jobs i had. It was an adventure i liked but i appreciate simplicity of small form factor pc's now.

@danct12 @murtezayesil I've got an AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX that's 8 core / 16 threads and uses 20-40W depending.Let everyone else buy 1,300W, 1,500W PSU's for the desktop version w/ added video cards. I will gladly stick with low power, lower cost, pretty much silent mini pc. :)

@prickle @murtezayesil 5900HX isn't a bad CPU, it has that SPEEEED.Currently rocking with a 5950X on my desktop rig and it is everything I wanted in my computer (probably will take 10 years for another CPU upgrade).

@danct12 @murtezayesil I figured it's going to be awhile before any of the new AMD processors are able to run in mini-pc's given their cooling needs. So i waited until this summer to finally upgrade to one of the best mini-pc's i could get, then upgraded that with 4TB SSD total and 64GB RAM.I won't need another new PC for a long time myself.
