Ok, another bed readied and seeded. This one has: Daikin radish, purple top turnips, red ace beets, cherry belle radish, arugula, Natchez carrots, jewel tone beets and hardneck garlic. Some of these plants can grow a little closer together, so I think I can get away with sneaking in an extra row. My wife threw away my tongue depressors, so I'm just having to remember what is where

Digging in the hugel bed next bed over. Here, I buried a lot of bigleaf maple logs and other yard waste about 3 years ago. It has decayed nicely. There was also an explosion of fungal growth in this bed. The soil smokes with spores when I turn it, and there are huge hardened chunks of soil held together by mycelium, shot through with grey, white and orange. So I can honestly say hugel is good for fungal growth

Ok, third and final bed. I still need to break up some clods, but I need to take a break and help my wife with dinner.

That rotten wood that I showed, you can squeeze it in your hands like a dishrag. It has completely lost the texture of wood. I guess that means the cellulose has broken down

Ok, last bed. This one is seeded with tie dye mustard green, Chinese broccoli, rainbow chard, regiment spinach, Scarlett Nantes carrot, turnips and tundra spinach. All cool season stuff.

@InternetEh you're planting now that's neat. You must live in a snowless world?

@Shiroyasha it's just about that season where everytime I step outside I say "why do I live here?"

@frigginglorious we don't get a lot of snow here in the south Willamette Valley, but these plants will be firmly established and frost hardy by the time it gets as cold as it's gonna get here.

@skylar @frigginglorious gonna keep doing ice baths as a last ditch effort to try to get to like the cold. Seeing other people in coats is making me think may it is actually working a bit.

@InternetEh I lived in the PNW for a couple of years. What a goddamn blessed place! Unfortunately couldn't stay out there.I guess I didn't realize growing was year round tho. I was in Seattle. Enjoy your year round fresh veggies!
