@WashedOutGundamPilot @blaaablaaaa That man would be well within his rights to let her rot in a nursing home but its still a distressing thought. I know my mom worries about that because she's outright asked about it. That we'll stuff her in an old folks home one day and never visit again even though I have no intention of letting that happen.

That is being forced out of your environment simply because you simply can't live there because all the jobs that exist don't give you enough to survive, and to start something you need to go through a decade of forced grindset for a maybe.You move out of your country/state, become a foreigner in an unknown land, and by the time you find some stability you've changed in such a way that you're a stranger to the land you were raised in. Outside of very rare, very few good circumstances, your allocated time with your parents and family is spent. Once you leave for a higher education or job there's a very real chance that you're going to visit each other at most 40 more times, and that's it. You've used up 90+% of your parent slash older relative time, and you aren't even aware of it.

@hrast @WashedOutGundamPilot Yeah that's a good point. I have a thought of the constant shifting of environment, landmarks, even the time (day light savings time), and things like that make people constantly on uncomfortable and disoriented. What you said of making people strangers to their families would be a similar thing making everyone an island.

@blaaablaaaa @Eschatology @WashedOutGundamPilot Who knows. May as well be real. I always had a "good" relationship with my family but my dad still disowned me for a time. He felt I was too comfortable at my job and wasn't trying hard enough to climb away from it. When he apologized later he said he imagined it would be a wake-up call that would snap me out of my "laziness" since I was at a dead end job and never took time off to fly home and visit. (couldn't afford it but he didn't believe me) He was a few hundred miles away, and seemed to think that surviving was super cheap and affordable so there's no excuse for not getting ahead with all that extra time I was saving as a single guy. To this day he still doesn't get how tough the job market is, or how much it costs to just live in compliance with all the adult requirements that weigh on the average person. Still blows me away that he thought disowning would be the solution there. I thought it was particularly jewy that I was ordered to liquidate anything he'd ever given me, anything that ever once was paid for by 'his" money, family property, gifts, anything. Demanded I sell it all within 30 days and hand him "every cent of it". All because I didn't have a job he could brag to his friends about, in reality, further justified by "if you don't even visit us for the holidays how do we even have a son?!? You aren't a part of this family, we haven't seen you in a year and a half!!!!"

He's made up and told me He'll pay for the cert I was earning towards (a pittance for him, but I have student loans hanging over my head so I'm stuck saving up to do it.
