@feld That's *really* cool. I hope it works well. The FeministWiki has an ejabberd installation but there are no really good XMPP mobile apps so it's practically useless. (Nobody seems to be using instant messaging on desktop anymore for some reason... Oh wait, they all use Discord which is why they don't exist to me, never mind.)

there is a good XMPP mobile app, but it's called Trillian and they sorta MITM your XMPP but the UX is actually good so it's a decent tradeoff lol

@feld That's gonna be a YIKES from me chief. :blobcatjoy: The nicest I could find is Xabber but it doesn't support OMEMO for weird Russian reasons... Or was it OTR that it doesn't support? Whichever is the one that's widespread for e2e XMPP encryption.

I should really reach out to Trillian and ask some technical questions about how their XMPP works because it appears a server logs in on your behalf and then sends the messages/push notifications to you without requiring the XMPP push notification extension (I think?) and without your client needing to be constantly connected to the XMPP server.I swear last time I tested it was *their* IP that was logging into my XMPP server, not the actual client.

yeah ejabberd is a thriving business product probably powering more stuff than you'd realize. (I'd bet a lot of corporate support chat systems use it underneath)It may also find its way into the ejabberd fork MongooseIM at some point

A number of modern chat features are supported, including E2EE (OMEMO) and video calling. The Android app is available on F-Droid as well as the Goggle Prey Store.@feld
