Signal is removing the ability to use SMS inside their Android app. Their reasoning, at least in part, is that SMS is insecure. And this is somehow a new problem?Faulty reasoning.

@thelinuxcast I don't even want to get started about SMS/RCS/iMessage. This is just one more level of smelly cruft surrounding the issue.

@thelinuxcast I used to run my SMS thru Signal. One less app etc. But then it made it hard to transition people over to Signal proper, as there was not an easy way to sent a Signal message to people you had previously sent an sms to. I do think it makes it easier, even though there is another app.

@thelinuxcast I think it makes sense: it's much easier to explain that "Messages send with Signal are secure" than "Every time you send a message with Signal, you need to check whether it's a secure message".I know plenty of people who mix up SMS/WhatsApp messages, and those aren't even in the same app.
