The HT3062E battery protection chip that I have been using in my Fluffbug #robot is now impossible to buy, so I sat down and designed version 6 of the PCB using the alternative DW07D chip for battery protection. I also used the opportunity to add a mosfet to the speaker, and some handles at the top for easier attaching of accessories. Also, I replaced the broken servos in one of the prototypes with orange ones, and it looks pretty neat.

Mostly assembled the version six of the Fluffbug #robot. This time I decided to use the SG92R servos, as they are a bit stronger while being the same weight. I still need to connect and cut the cables. Also visible is the camera shield, which still requires testing.

I got the little guy walking, but I had to short the new battery protection chip DW07D, as it seems to panic and cut off the battery when the servos start moving together. I couldn't find its exact current limit, but I will see if I can tune it somehow.

Replacing one resistor next to the battery protection chip fixed the problems triggered by the overcurrent condition. The protection is still there, just requires a greater voltage drop on the battery to be triggered.

Today I had a little time and energy to do coding, so I rewrote the gait code for fluffbug using asyncio. It's still not great, with hard-coded waits everywhere, but it's a step forward, and now that it's all asyncio tasks, it's easy to add support for a screen displaying animated face while walking, or some sensors. In the future, I want a function that will estimate the movement time of the servo, and do the waiting automatically.

Today as an exercise in moving out of my comfort zone, I tried to re-make the PCB for Fluffbug #robot in KiCad. After about an hour and two KiCad crashes, I moved on to EasyEDA and that went much better, especially since I could find the footprints for everything. It's now shared at https://oshwlab.com/deshipu/fluffbug

Now playing with OpenSCAD a little, which will be useful later for illustrating the assembly instructions.

Today I had some spare energy after work, so I sat down and implemented that displaying of a face alongside walking, using asyncio. I'm pretty happy with it, but I will need to add some more expressions, so that I can debug using them.
