I keep seeing these posts about how HARM missiles are actual garbage. I don't know how accurate it is but in any case defense contractors won't be missing any meals any time soon.image.png

@Terry the guy oversold itHARMs are old, but theres newer ones which are better (hence the reason of the varying cost), but they are not "designed to do this thing" They are designed to roam on the enemy radar radiation then strike the enemy AA batteries with its own radar.Are they bad? noAre they really good? also noHowever the biggest thing here is:They are clearly being destroyed by the AA systems, which puts in question US ability to do Iraq, if the enemy AA defenses are up to date.

@Boomerman @Terry yep, the HARM itself is not necessarily trash if paired with the HARM targeting system pod to feed the HARM with live targeting data. the Ukrainians are just firing HARMs programmed to fly to a certain area and turn on its passive radar homing seeker to look for any enemy radar sites with (which can be easily defeated by just turning off ur radar, and Russian AA systems tend to feature a backup optical targeting system)

@Terry One thing however, there is talks, but I gonna say its probably Russian propaganda, that S-400 are superior to Patriot. (yes they are newer, but I mean REALLY SUPERIOR, like the newer version of Patriot is badly made compared to S-400)

@Terry The entire war is a pretty good advertisement for Russian weapons systems, especially since the Ukes keep getting top notch US and western systems and training for essentially free in versions that are as good or better than most export versions... And they keep getting counteracted by what the media assures us is still barely post-Soviet trash.

@Gerfand @Terry HARMs dont sound that effective when the enemy can shoot the missile out of the sky. which would be relatively easy to do if the missile is heading right at them

@Groomschild @Terry yes, however this is honestly basically every missile like this, at the start of the war I saw someone complaining why "the Russians didn't do a Iraq in the Ukraine air defense" (tho NATO was half the reason) the S-300 were better than whatever Iraq had in 1990s, or 2003.The question is extremely economical, but also the nation with bigger economy has the advantage.Russia can spawn AA missiles as decoys, Ukraine can't, it also can't do many missions to deny the enemy air defense when they have almost no aircraft thx to Russian action, which can build newer ones.So I gonna say this, the HAMR is not bad, its just not being used in a effective way, just like T-72s used by ME nations, even if its being used in its intended role.
