But seriously one billion dollars, a ruling that high kind of makes me question the whole trial

@Moon for the amount of harassment these people have received from his supporters? Frankly anything less would be injustice, imo

@graf @Moon restorative damages in that amount make no sense, but the jury could have easily awarded that amount in punitive damages.State statutes often limit how much in punitive damages can actually be assessed so he won't have to pay all of that I'm sure.

@JSDorn @graf @Moon Apparently you cannot be forced to pay more 2x what is awarded in compensatory damages with punitive damages. News articles were already complaining about the cap on damages back in August.

@LouisConde @JSDorn @graf @Moon Thank God the law maintains some sense. Limits like this are like a relic that proves we at some point had a sane society. Do you know if the 1 billion is just a virtue signal, or is the money coming from somewhere else like a government payout?

@Moon He shouldn't even have been charged. He made false statements, then was blasted off of platforms and mercilessly criticized as a result. Defamation requires damages. The only damage done was to himself. No need to get the state involved.People just hate Alex Jones, and are willing to bend the law in order to get rid of him. It's absolutely disgusting that it's working so far.

@Moon Absolute fucking bullshit, it was a joke and the judgement is further proof of this nonsenseThis is just jews or whoever taking the piss out of him and going "haha wouldn't it be funny if he pays a one billion dollar fine?" While transfusing child blood into their bodies so they can live for a longer time (this is real btw)

@graf @Moon Merck lied and manipulated data about their painkiller Vioxx, which caused 88,000 confirmed heart attacks (likely hundreds of thousands more) and 38,000 deaths. $950 million fine.JP Morgan rigged the precious metals market for a decade and got a $920 million dollar fine. Also, remember, this isn't including Punitive Damages. This is just "the damage he caused them," which we have no information on because the Judge used bullshit tricks to find him guilty without a trial (by default).

@fcktheworld587 @fcktheworld587 @Moon So if people is mean to you then you can be awarded a billion in fiat? How much do we owe to every white person disenfranchised and unemployed because they posted "mean" tweets? How much do we owe to entire nations suppressed for merely existing? Will every russian get a billion for decades of vilification? Will every German get a billion for almost a century of vilification plus all the murder and rape that even today is shoved under the rugs?I don't hope this ever happens to you, but if you chocked to death drinking a jug of piss, I may be remarkably contentHusky_1665610193897_8GAMJEL9DU.png

@LouisConde @JSDorn @Moon @graf Just because there isn't a statutory cap doesn't mean there isn't a cap. A cap appears to have been created by case law in Connecticut.cga.ct.gov/PS97/rpt/olr/htm/97-R-1140.htm
