       @drfaustz well, you can't voice-chat on IRC, post stickers or searchable GIFs, have nice modern bots, share game statuses, have any reasonable invite/approve user management, also you don't need to have an app installed for Discord (when you only need to use it twice a year)I don't even like Discord but IRC is just not comparable

       @albi You can create your own complete communication system stack and statically integrate each component of it.IRC is one of some component you may need (Well if IRC is not yours favor maybe you can use XMPP or Matrix).---I love the UNIX Philosophy that is "Do one thing and do it well."Why even a chat apps need a built-in Video Player or Image Viewer if you can use your own default system Image Viewer/Video Player?Discord is just like a Emacs as a chat program + it's proprietary.

       @drfaustz yes, unix philosophy is nice and all ... if you have pipespipes work well for data manipulation not for BFU shitsure you can have a side window and post gifs linked from there while inviting people in the IRC room to a Jitsi session, you can even boilerplate it "seamlessly" together, but it will only work for you, not for all of the users you want to communicate withthat's why the winner is Telegram and not Jabber or somethingwe can't have nice things yet ... but we're getting there

       @drfaustz sure, just get the IT folks to get their oh so progressive asses from IRC and XMPP and they can then start converting the BFUs to use Session :D meanwhile there's Discord and Telegram for themmy hopes lie in Matrix, already have my Dendrite server up and running
