@deVoid i always imagined for boxcutters it was because the jp late & mid aged poverty blue collar typically amounts to warehouse work/shipping. cool common scrappy murder weapon by someone who probably feels that theyre at the end of their life already. same with kitchen knives. adult married woman who had fallen ill to the same monotony and loss of purpose and killed their spouses/family etc. if you like horror and youre jp this to me would just make sense

@deVoid @WebPal Yeah I carry a K-bar too but you can hide box cutters around your clothing in unexpected places. So box cutters are like a back up weapon.

@Eternal_Newfag @deVoid @WebPal Boxcutters are pretty bad at actually being used in self-defense outside of dissuasion tho because wound depth is limited by blade toughness.Even a small utility folding blade like a Leathermanās blade will allow much deeper wounds and as such create hypovolemic shock faster and more reliably, which is what you want if you want to remove danger.So unless you have very high confidence in your ability to cut critical tendons in anger with the boxcutter to get immediate biomechanical effects, it probably will just piss off the opponent very much.I for one would never count on biomechanical disablement with anything smaller than a machete, sure in training you may be able to do it with a 1ā blade ā¦in trainingā¦

I was making the point that if I was forced too i'd wind up using the box cutters as a last resort and why not carry weapons that you need to fall back on. Box cutters are easy to hide and inflict alot more damage to a person than you would think. Unless... Maybe... You think the 9/11 hijacker story was fake? Cause the official 9/11 story is they used box cutters to hijack the plane. Your telling me youd go up against someone armed with a box cutter?

@Eternal_Newfag @deVoid @WebPal Being a weirdo blade guy who usually has at least 3 blades on me, Iām well versed in the ābackup bladeā concept, anything in your hand is loads better than bare handed, including a simple car key.Itās just that on an efficiency/volume basis, there are so many blades that have a smaller signature while being better at doing incapacitating damage that boxcutters are pretty low on the priority list of āstuff to carry just in caseā, obviously if you already use them in your daily activities all the time, then the cost of carrying is already paid.I would never go into a fight until it was necessary, and when it is actually necessary who the fuck cares what the guy is carrying, the dissuasion phase is over by then, you are arguing for their dissuasive effect, not their combat effectiveness, you are correct that effectiveness is not a real factor in dissuasion, because fear is not rational but thatās also an argument for brandishing a needled syringeā¦Remember that itās your ābackupā weapon, as such you are presumably not using it for dissuasion in the first place, that would be the K-Bar (generally, Iām not a fan of showing weapons as a dissuasion tactic, but to each his own, I donāt know in what kind of risk and legal environment you are).

@deVoid @ogre_fucker @Eternal_Newfag @WebPal While I can rationalize use cases where blades are actually better, Iām not going to lie, all things being equal, a pistol in the hand is worth a lot more.But see, Iām eurotrash, I have had knives since I was a kid, only got a gun in my late 30ās, a blade feels like an extension of my body, a gun does not, sure I can shoot at paper without looking too much like a fool , but could I shoot at meat with my adrenaline making me raving mad, OC mist in my eyes and with people I care about in danger, yeah nope, I know I would definitely suck, a dagger or a machete on the other hand, Iām pretty confident I still would not be totally useless.In my specific case, the only real reason I still carry a pistol in some environments is not so much that itās a good weapon, but that itās got the magical ability to make cops appear out of thin air whenever you shoot it, a lot faster than they would ever appear in any other way (you get to decide by yourself if that ability is a net positive or a net negativeā¦ š )
