Need some #PeerTube advice!The really excellent PeerTube instance https://tilvids.com now has a bug that stops people on Mastodon etc being able to follow Tilvids accounts:-Existing follows work fine, but new follows turn into "Follow request sent" messages and don't go through (PT doesn't use requests).-Messaged Tilvids about this and they rebooted server, but it didn't help.-Posted on PT Github but no help so far.Any suggestions for how to fix this?Boosts appreciated!#AskFedi

@optimal TILvids doesn't federate its videos to other PeerTube servers.However, it does federate with other platforms. Accounts and channels can be followed from elsewhere on the Fediverse (or at least, they could until this bug stopped new follows).

@FediVideos I don't know much about PT, but the way I'd start debugging such issue is to make sure you have access to the server, as well as a server to send a follow from. Then check your web server's access_logs and your instance's server log and see what happens.The flow that you should see is; You send a Follow activity to the pt instance, It gets processed correctly by the pt instance, It sends an Accept activity back, It gets processed correctly by the instance that made the follow requestSo if you check the logs;Does pt receive the follow request (you should see it in the access_log of the pt server)? Does it throw errors (you should see this in the pt instance's logs)? Does the instance you send the follow from receive an accept activity (you should see it in the access_log of the server where the follow request came from)? Does it throw errors (see logs of the instance the request was send from)?You can also change the logging for the web server to show more information. For debugging I typically set it such that it also shows me the body of the request[1].It could maybe also help to post a link to the issue. Maybe it has more info.And ofc, did anything happen before follows stopped working? Update, change in settings, etc.I tried now from a pleroma instance. After the first time sending the follow activity, I noticed tilvids requesting my actor, so it must've at least have seen and started to process the follow activity. But I never got an accept activity back.[1] First define the format:log_format postdata escape=none '$remote_addr - $remote_user [$time_local] "$request" $status $body_bytes_sent $request_body "$http_referer" "$http_user_agent"';Then use it in the server block: access_log /var/log/nginx/develop.ilja.space-access.log postdata;

@optimal If I understand correctly, the idea is that the videos won't appear on any other video servers.All Tilvids videos are posted with permission of the creators, and apparently some of them seem uncomfortable with videos being federated to other video sites that they haven't approved.Some PeerTube servers aren't so great about moderation, so I can kind of understand this. It would be nice if they federated to well-moderated servers, but I guess that's extra work for Tilvids' admin.

@FediVideos But, then what's the point of *Peer*Tube? Then TILvids essentially becomes just another centralized video hosting site, basically acting as a CDN.arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

@ozoned Awww, thanks :) :blobaww: But I should say @tilvids is the one going most above and beyond with this, they negotiate with all the creators they feature so that they will try out PeerTube. Some of the creators even chat on PeerTube nowadays, so they're clearly showing an interest.It would be great if Tilvids could be supported in this effort. They are doing a lot of good for PeerTube and the Fediverse by getting quality content makers on board.
