Thoughts on the new Hellraiser:Pretty damn good. Definitely better than most of the sequels.If you liked Hellbound: Hellraiser 2, this will be a treat for you. It is definitely a love letter to that one in a lot of ways. I was hoping the plot would return to the book as a source, but that was not the case.The story felt like they were trying too hard to be original. Something straightforward would have been better. Also there's too much focus on the Cenobites. The thing that made the first 2 so special was that the true villains were Frank and Julia. But I can't really be to upset about this, as this is what the series has become already. They did a good job with what they did.The new lore was very interesting. I loved the concept of the new puzzle box. I also loved the design of the Cenobites. The mutilation felt more intricately blended into their bodies. It reminded me of how they were described in the books. But it was also not too different from the classic design. A very good compromise. I also thought troon pinhead did a great job. The characters were not very likeable. The main character is a junkie, which reminded me too much of the Evil Dead remake. The gay couple felt shoehorned in just for the sake of having one and there was another roommate that really served no purpose in the story except to be prey to the cenobites.Overall pretty good to great, almost excellent. Would recommend, just he prepared for some eye rolls here and there.

@Darb I dunno if I would call it scary. The gore and the pain scenes were well done though. Definitely winced a few times. The Dark Fantasy aspects were very well done though, and that's what Barker does best so I was very happy with the overall atmosphere.

@DickMolesterson I agree with most of what you said. I am especially on board with the protagonist being unlikeable.I thought the third act drug and the whole barrier thing was pretty ridiculous, but at least they put effort into trying to come up with a different take instead of "Hurr Durr Pinhead is a chick now!"This isn't Twitter so should I include yeah I've read The Hellbound Heart and realize Hellraiser didn't conform to the story? Not saying you will, I'm just used to the "Well AHCKSHUALLY" responses.That and they didn't rely on jump scares.It's not a recommend from me but I don't put it on the must avoid list.

@TheyCallMeRalph Oh believe me I've given up hope on ever seeing a perfectly faithful adaptation of Hellbound Heart at this point lol. The first one is the closest we will ever get. I'm just happy we didn't have a cenobite throwing CDs or an internet gimmick. Also glad they didn't just make a Jacob's Ladder rip off lol.I was ok with the house in the 3rd act. It reminded me of Hellraiser 4 in a way lol. It was silly but at this point I'm ok with a little silliness as long as it's well done silliness.

@FGustoh Yeah. Maybe I'm being too soft on it because I am such a Barker fan. But I can't deny how refreshing it was to watch a Hellraiser that didn't feel like a cheap made for TV special that you'd see on SyFy.

@DickMolesterson I would add Pinhead didnt seem to have the same commanding presence as the original. Still has that innocent curiosity/amusement of human actions. The asian cenobite seemed to evoke the most emotion out of all. Still decent crew all round.

@FGustoh That is true. Also reminded me of the book that way. The pinhead in that was just the mouthpiece for hell, not really a commanding presence itself. I liked how Leviathan felt like the true power in this.

I said this before but, using an irl mutilated demon to play a mutilated demon is pretty spot on.@DickMolesterson I agreed with your comments on Hellraiser. The main character was just unbearable, she is the typical whiny, selfish, junkie. The shohorned gay boyfriend was much more likeable than her. FFS her brother went missing and she goes to have sex with some rando. The reveal of the guys who were pulling the strings (pun intended) was a bit obvious but it was ok.The gore was pretty good too, overall I enjoyed it.

Exactly, classical Hollywood lazy writing. The moment I realized it was going to be THAT kind of character, it didn't bother me too much as I focused more on the Cenobites design and novelty.

I don't know much about drugs and their effects so I didn't catch on to that, but that is an example of the lazy writing, these people don't do any fucking research to give some credibility to the story.

Only thing I didn't really like was how the cenobites look. These in-flesh-carved-armours. Too much biochemichal monster, too futuristic, too much cyberpunk. I get the idea but I just don't like how it turned out.Troonhead did a good job indeed.
