❓ Are you using Thunderbird's chat feature? If yes, feel free to share the type of network (IRC, Matrix, etc.) or purpose (staying in touch with friends, giving/receiving tech support, etc.)

@floppy I googled it. No Matrix support, unfortunately. If Thunderbird had it, maybe I would give it a try.

@vikingkong It seems Thunderbird is capable of connecting to the Matrix network.I couldn't believe it initially either, but when I go to Account Settings and then try to "Add Chat Account..." then I can also select Matrix. I'm using Thunderbird version 102.3.1.Haven't tested myself, but it seems @ruud and @MagicLike have, as by their posts in this thread.

@floppy @vikingkong @ruud @MagicLike It turns out Mozilla has switched from IRC to Matrix for their own channels. They used to have irc.mozilla.org, and it used to be the default on Thunderbird, then they switched to Freenode, then irc.libera.chat. They have Matrix so you can stay on the Mozilla channels on Thunderbird.

@james @floppy @vikingkong @ruud @MagicLike I will badly need element for android APK but with arm7a native SOS only, no multiarch bloat.

@Hyolobrika @floppy @ruud @MagicLike @vikingkong OdnoKlasniki as in same class alumns, is also sometimes called by friends and allies: odnoGlazniki, as in one eyed Cyclops.

@floppy another "essential" function of Thunderbird... I'd rather they spend time improving the email fundamentals.

@floppy I tried Matrix in Thunderbird, but didn't find it as intuitive as clients like Element, FluffyChat or NeoChat. That said, I have no real use for Matrix at this point in time. So my lack of interest in Thunderbird's Matrix implementation isn't a knock against it.

@HyolobrikaIt sucks.. The other services there too.. Better use native clients for all the options above. Thunderbird should use their dev power for mail imo... @floppy @ruud @MagicLike @vikingkong

@boilingsteam Generally that seems like a fair point. Which email fundamentals in particular do you think is Thunderbird currently lacking?

@floppy @vikingkong @ruud @MagicLike Yeah, with the recent update, the sidebar, new icons, Matrix chat and custom headers were added. I have been using the Matrix chat. it works better than the XMPP integration, which seems to need restarting to rejoin chat rooms that you are a part of.
