Huh, that's a lot of companies that fell for "hey kid wanna have your own gTLD" swindle 🤣 https://www.icann.org/resources/pages/gtld-registry-agreement-termination-2015-10-09-en#DNS

@rysiek Woah, does that mean .off and .duck are available again?

@rysiek Honestly, to me it's not that Bugatti ever needed their own TLD for other purposes than vanity.

@lukem yeah, and if *Bugatti* tells you that something is a bit too much on the vanity scale… oh man.

@rysiek So ... is it just me or is ICANN really trying to become more relevant than they are? YES! They house the TLD's. NO! No one needs their own custom TLD, let alone should they pay for such a convenience. People don't have a clue. They search a search engine, let's be real Google, and they go to whatever without realizing the address. No one cares about the TLD. If I'm wrong or there's a REAL use case for this, please someone correct me. Obviously GOV or COUNTRY is a bit diff.

@ozoned you are tooting this from a service hosted on a domain in the .social gTLD, and I am responding to it using a service hosted on a domain in the .technology gTLD so I guess there are some uses for these?

@rysiek But that's my point. Do you care you're on .technology and I'm on .social? That's what I mean. YES, there's a difference with different servers at the end, but in reality, we talk as if it doesn't matter at all. Let alone for these luxury domains.

@ozoned yes, I actually do, a bit. Pretty sure people on an .lgbt instance do too.

@rysiek @ozoned I think ccTLDs and similar ones like .cat, .bzh, … are also appreciated by their users.

@lanodan I'm out of touch with those, and I mean no offense or ignorance here just plain interest in learning. Why are .cat and .bzh appreciated and important?

@ozoned They're the TLDs for Catalonia and Brittany.Cultures and countries that tend to be quite independent from the main state they're in.Kind of like if Ireland would have got their ccTLD before booting out the british.

@lanodan ok so those make 100% sense. Yes, people should have their own identities. But a corporation? IDK maybe I'm overreaching. :-)

@ozoned Yeah, corporate TLDs aren't a thing I would support.Specially when you end up with .amazon being the corporation rather than the massive river and rainforest.
