I even told Ralph I was not going to defederate him. the situation with dick was him deliberately trying to push the issue and thus advocating for the behavior. we will only defederate instances in the case of it beind used predominantly for illegal activities or where the admin makes egregious local rule violations or supports it and it's always been this way.

I can still see your posts. Basically what defederation means that the instance that defeds you stops receiving messages from your instance. So you are effectively cut off from their userbase and they can't see/interact with your posts.Normally this would be ok if some random instance defeds you, but since poast is large af it constitutes ~20-25k users no longer being able to interact with you if it happens

My question was more about public figures with a large following, whose real names have not just become public, but also widely disseminated to they point they are common knowledge. The crux of this would be the case of Keffals. I feel that both real names Keffals has used are so widely disseminated at this point that it is not a violation of our servers rules to incidentally refer to Keffals by either of those names in posts. Posting Keffals address, or the name of their former fiance, for instance, would be against our rules.

Basically I am trying to prevent chud buds from being painted as a place to go for the dissemination of dox or as an extension of KF. I could be wrong on this but I believe poa.st does not allow linking to KF threads. I am okay with people linking to the KF discussion threads because even if they may contain dox somewhere, that is not the ONLY thing they contain-there is usually pages and pages of discussion going on. Making a post with someone's dox in it, or linking to a pastebin of dox, would mean that user is directly trying to use our platform as a way to distribute dox. That would be against our rules, regardless of how "old" the dox is.An exception to this would be what I was discussing earlier when asking graf for clarification on poast rules. In my opinion, name dox or face dox of public figures is okay IF that information has already been widely distributed to the point of becoming common knowledge. For example, I'm not going to warn or ban anyone for calling WingsofRedemption "Jordie", or for posting that goofy ass photo of Flamenco's face.I understand this adds an element of subjectiveness to the rule, but that can't really be helped. Stuff like this will have to be dealt with on a case-by-case basis. I am definitely not someone prone to knee-jerk reactions however, so you can count on most violators of the dox rule getting at least one warning first, unless they do something especially egregious.

But it isn't untrue that there is a weird nebulousness about it. At what point is it just common knowledge is something I don't think you can easily define. Like if you called Metokur by his actual name back when Kraut was running his gay ops you'd absolutely be doxing him and deserve all the derision and distaste that accompanies it. Now it is such common knowledge that he himself just states it outright. It would be really foolish to ban someone now for calling him James but back then would have been expected. That's easy, determining when that change happened is harder and will never satisfy everyone.
