@weaf Without the Holocaust, what did the nazi's do wrong, really? That's the issue here: Every villain is based on the nazis so if you take away what makes the nazis the "bad guys", then all of our consumer culture's foundation is kicked out from underneath

@weaf Given I was in a public school once, and it was given attention for every history course, and had some guy who claimed to be a survivor show up in my third grade class to talk to us in the hick of nowhere redstate... I'll let you be the judge.

@WoodshopHandman The argument for decades was "Hitler was a warmonger" and that's what I'm curious about. Is it really the Holocaust or is it just a performance from the average person because of the system.

@weaf So the thing you have to understand about the average person is they aren’t really in control over their own consciousness and they don’t really know anything. They do care about the Holocaust but the average person also can’t explain what the Holocaust even is. To them it’s just the entirety of Hitler’s reign and from the moment he came to power until they were gassing jews by the millions, the jews were persecuted and tortured just for being different and that’s the Holocaust. And that’s really evil and bad and also the Nazis killed anyone who disagreed with them.So yes, Whites do care about the Holocaust but that’s the context they understand it as. It’s extremely abstract to the point they can easily step into it because they accidentally say something that diminishes its uniqueness or try to co-opt it for their own politics

@weaf I'm sure there are some people that are more offended by the invasion of poland than others, but for the most part I think it's theatrical stories like skeet shooting babies and mengel's experiments that makes people look at nazis in such a bad light

@borzoi Yeah that's what I was really curious about. The Holocaust obviously occupies a large section of political discussions but is it the Holocaust or the Second World War that average people think of when being adverse to Nazism/Fascism. But if you don't have a coherent idea of the history and only have that abstract context the distinction isn't really relevant.

@weaf @borzoi Maybe I'm a weird case but I will point to the classic Hitler Channel (History Channel pre-2008) and state that normies actually love WWII Germany in terms of being a worthy opponent with really cool machinery. The continued existence of Wehraboos in regards to Tank/Plane games is also evidence for this. If it wasn't for the hall of costs the average person's opinion of Hitler and the Third Reich would mirror that of their opinion of the Kaiser and WWI (they don't care at all).

@borzoi @weaf I was about to make a more nuanced point about who actually is worth counting as average "people" and then I remembered my very far above average friend who literally thought the US nuked Japan in retaliation for Pearl Harbor. I don't mean that he drew a direct line of causation through the war, he literally did not know we fought a war in the Pacific and thought we just got down to business a few years later with a couple of nukes in revenge.The kind of things my normie friends "learned" while bored during the 2020 lockdowns still haunts me.
