@Mehrad I condemn his arrest but please do not mislead. Jadi is anyone but Linux advocate. He clearly says these are all tools; use the one that does the job. He is an active member of IT community in Iran.

@ahangarha Dude, really? That&#39;s your complaint now? For real? Of anyone out there, I didn&#39;t expect you to get nit-picky in this situation! You and I have discussed Jadi&#39;s stance of FLOSS few times already, and you know I agree with you on that, but he is the one teaching LPIC (Linux Professional Institute Certificate) to masses for free in a layman terms in Persian. He have done more for Linux adoption and teaching than me and many others. So pet&#39;s put this hair-splitting arguments aside.

@changeable This is way out of my league and expertise. I also wonder if Amnesty can do anything in such situations. Raising awareness is good, but from utilitarian perspective, I wonder how effective it can be. Of course I&#39;m in no position to tell you what to do and what not do. You do what you think is the best.

@Mehrad OK will do. The format is similar to what I remember being taught to write: respectful but let them know that people are interested in the detained person, that someone is watching. I&#39;ll follow you, if that&#39;s OK, to see if you have any updates.I don&#39;t have any affiliation with Amnesty now, haven&#39;t had for a long long time.

@Mehrad First, and again I condemn this arrest. But whether in peace or in war, don&#39;t expect me to call him a Linux advocate. Advocacy has some meaning.We can still focus on condemnation of an IT activist detention. There is no point of puting a false label on him.

@Aldi80s I have two hypothesis, both of which are relatively commonly belief to be the case:1. Gov has forced him to give up his credentials and 2FA, have later backed up all his data‌ (e.g for evidence) and have closed/suspended the accounts to restrict access of public to the contents, and potentially &quot;out of sight, out of mind&quot;.3. People have reported the accounts to the service providers (i.e Twitter, Instagram, ...) and the service provider has suspended the account.🧵👇

If by reporting we could take an account down, then many accounts including dictators and moron politicians would have been suspended 24/73. Let&#39;s explore it this way: when a person is detained/arrested, all their social media accounts including twitter, facebook, instagram, and telegram goes dark (i.e suspended, deleted, emptied) almost immediately. If your hypothesis is correct, then both of the following should happen:1. All such companies should have on-call staff just for this purpose to act fast2. Someone (friends/relatives) should inform these companiesSo, imho unlikely

@Mehrad @Aldi80s Not my view actually, as I was simply linking to an article that reported as much while mentioning that I hoped it was true.My own hypothesis: he was likely coerced to give up his device passwords and his accounts were then compromised and terminated. For accounts that were suspended however, given the historical coziness by social media companies with oppressive regimes, suspension was likely done in collusion with the State.
