Hmmm since upgrading to #iOS 16 my little 2020 SE has been REALLY struggling. The performance has dropped way down. The phone keeps locking up for a few seconds at a time. It’s very annoying.Anyones else experiencing this? Please, no “forced obsolescence” conspiracy theories. I’m not really interested in debating that.

@kev I'm very sorry to ask about the exact thing you said not to, but this is really interesting to me. By "conspiracy theory" do you mean you think planned obsolescence:a) does not exist,b) is not something Apple does, orc) does not (yet) affect your phone?Again, sorry to ask and don't want to debate anything, but just haven't seen "conspiracy theory" together with planned obsolescence, and would like to know more.

@kev I notice a very significant lag specifically when searching using spotlight on my 13 Pro.

@kev From my experience, this has been common over the past decade with low-end Apple products, although I do not think it is intentional. It is like pouring new wine into old wineskins & watching the bottles burst. I believe the main reason Apple allows new, high-performing software to be downloaded upon older, lower-end iPhones is to compete against cheaper Android devices worldwide. That is my business theory & I am sticking to it! 😁

@kev Yes, my 2020 SE is laggy and buggy since the i0S 16 update. Given that I purchased it, brand new, from Apple in March of this year, I'm less than thrilled.

@kev My wife has a 2020 SE and she’s had no issues since updating to iOS 16. It’s also running fine on my daughter’s iPhone 8.

@kev we did have this issue with an iOS update once (although I don’t remember which version or which phone) and the fix was to do an iCloud backup, reset the phone and then restore from backup.

@kev Software dev here, after the iOS 16 update some of our apps started to behave really weird, mostly stuttering issues with older devices, probably has to do with the updated Metal (metal 3) rendering API.

@kev I have an iPhone 13 and I think(!) that I have a higher battery drain since iOS 16. So there must be something running in the background that wasn’t there before. Perhaps this shows more on the SE due to the older processor. Let’s hope that the 16.1 update will improve this.
