You won't believe how difficult it is to start a company as a foreigner in most countries. Even a private entrepreneurship is a major pain in the ass. Running an LLC is nigh impossible, unless I want to spend at least a month, maybe more going through various bureaucratic hoops. And all of this just for the privilege of being able to pay taxes. There is a reason why I tend to avoid doing it, and being opposed to taxation per se isn't the biggest reason here.

Whether I am allowed to run my business and earn money depends solely on some vague criteria of money laundering or financing extremism, even if I planned on doing no such thing. It helps a bit if I hire a consultant to help me with all this, but even then the result isn't guaranteed. With what I'm facing now, I can't start my business and apply for the residence in the same month. Not that his is prohibited by law, but everybody says that my residence will be denied, because it will be "obvious" that I only started the business for the residence. Even if I don't care about the latter that much anyway and only need it to avoid issues with banks. The further it goes, the more it feels that government bureaucracies are openly hostile.I could also bribe my way through. Which honestly seems the easiest, even if a tad bit more risky. But overall, it just doesn't seem worth the trouble if I manage to convince my clients to pay me in crypto, while also declaring minimum eligible income.I'm not trying to be ungovernable by choice, god sees it. It's just the least annoying way to do things.

@newt You're are also in europe, containing some the least biz friendly places in the world. I remember talking to a swedish guy recently about how it's impossible to fire long-timers since the firing / layoff order is most junior to senior, so a lot of sr. guys just check out and are unproductive. All of the immigrant hostility comes from the govt trying to please their anti-immigrant constituent. You can also start a company in not EU if it's an online biz.

@surfingalot anti-immigration isn't the problem here, trust me. I'm not even trying to immigrate. All I want is a safe harbour for my money and the ability to do business and potentially hire some employees, all while being overseas. This is pure bureaucracy in a nutshell. Also, I'm not talking about Sweden or the likes of it. I wouldn't want to live in Sweden for the world.

@surfingalot I'm not sure there even is a biz friendly place in the world, unless you are a multi-million dollar enterprise.

@newt I was just using sweden as an example, I think it's similar elsewhere. There are other countries where starting a company as a foreigner is wayyyy easier and would be lower tax, although I don't know how it works with foreign controlled corporation tax laws with where you live. Maybe look outside of the EU? Try the USA or Panama or many other options?

@surfingalot I wasn't talking just about the EU either. The US is shitfucked when it comes to running a company from overseas. The only sorta friendly state was Florida, and even that opportunity seems to be closing.

@surfingalot starting isn't the problem for the most part. The problem is that after a while you have your accounts frozen until you provide a huge pile of papers, while having your operations halted for an arbitrary length of time. This doesn't happen to everyone, but it happens.

@newt It is induced by the USA if banks want to keep US banking system access, which is pretty much the entire world. So the surface law is whatever it is in the country, but those laws are created by the USA putting various conditions on countries and banks, so they adopt them too.

@newt yes, and why does the EU do it? Because the USA induces the EU to do it. Yes the EU also has it's own beauracratic desires for it too, but it really does come from the USA.People and policy wonks ranting about the petrodollar, talking about how oil being traded in euros and yuan is a risky / brave thing, etc, etc. How all the central banks basically follow the us policy, etc. It's all linked to how the USA defines it's financial surveillance regime on the world.

@surfingalot also, Renminbi (this is what China's currency is called, not Yuan) isn't freely convertible. Just so that you know.I take it, you hate the US, but you really miss how the bureaucratic nightmare has become the fashion everywhere.

@newt I don't hate the USA lol, I moved there on purpose. I'm just stating why reality is the way it is, I'm not promoting or defending it.Bureaucracies being stupid bureaucratic is a bit different, I'm just telling you why it is the way it is with AML behavior, I'm not defending it. It's also cultural. Latin America is also stupid bureaucratic and legally complicated for example. Sometimes that is just an indicator that they want bribes, so the make the official way hard.

@newt I also don't like the financial surveillance regime put under the fig leaf of AML around the world, I don't support it and I don't like it when bureaucratic organizations make life hard for everyone else BTW. I hate NIMBY behavior with a passion and more.

@newt I need to start putting more disclaimers upfront when I explain things I don't like, it comes with an implicit assumption I'm defending those things.Don't shoot the messenger, etc.
