@lupyuen Oh wow I never realized there were so few people in Canada compared to other countries, that's neat!

@xaviers I was the opposite. I keep thinking we're approx. 10% of the usa's population, but we've been creeping up.@lupyuen

@gemlog @lupyuen True but what amazed me, as French, is that there is only a little more than half of the French population. Given the size of Canada, that's wow! I really left a crowded country lol

@xaviers Yeah, canada is mostly empty. Where I live in BC there are 5 health regions. Mine is 600,000 square kilometers, but has only 300,000 people. When we were restricted in our own health region for covid, I drove 1,100km to visit a friend and never left my own health region! ;-)And québec is ~1.5x bigger than bc.. :-) @lupyuen

@gemlog @lupyuen Wow interesting, and thanks for the illustration, I thought France would be smaller compared to Québec!

@gemlog It's most likely the case, but I personally enjoy more reading about gardening, the wild, nature, etc. (I wish there were a mastodon instance targeting those subjects).

@xaviers I don't think the focus of an instance is as important as its uptime!Over the years I have curated a list of people to follow which fluctuates between ~65 and 75 people maximum. That's as many people as I can learn about and from and keep track of in my brain. Anymore than that and I don't have time to read all they post. But only a couple use the same instance as I use - they are all over the internet and all over the world even.If you are interested in those subjects, then you will eventually find people to follow.I feel sorry for people new to fedi - I have no advice for them! All they can do is try drinking from the firehose of the global and local feeds, which I never look at these days, because I have plenty to interest me and I don't need any bizarre random drama in my life.
