Pre-meditated break-in and burglary of my tiny little retail shop. 3rd time in 8 years. That's it. We're done. I cannot afford to re-open.I just want to curl up in a ball and shut the world out. This world sucks ass. My wife, my kids, my brothers, we all lose, because some lazy bastards cant be bothered to earn a FUCKING LIVING the LEGAL WAY!I FUCKING HATE THESE MOTHERFUCKERS!

@anotherkiwiguy i realise these break-ins likely can't be prevented, but in terms of the spreadsheets, you now have a number to punch in.3 break-ins every 8 years means 0.375 break-ins a year. so that's an expense.i'm not saying it's that easy, but i'm just applying my own method here.how many $ will that cost you, per annum, on average? how will you need to adjust prices to take that into account?

@thor@berserker.town Thanks mate. I know. I just have to let it settle in my head. It's hard not to take it personally, considering we opened to help the community. It was a labor of love more than anything. No insurance company would touch us, and no bank would cover our transactions. So we did it all our selves, from scratch.I have to go and deal with cops and try and repair some of the damage. If we do open, we will indeed have to push up the prices. Likely around 30%

@anotherkiwiguy you shouldn't feel bad about having somewhat high prices as a small business.you have no chance of competing on price anyway, against people who operate on a massive scale.you have to take advantage of the situation. i assume you've been doing a pretty good job of that already, seeing as i could only dream of having a shopfront.

@thor@berserker.town Yeah, we did ok. We invested money from the start, all product was owned by us, not on consignment or on loan/credit. So we were in the black from the very beginning.

@anotherkiwiguy if you are known to your community, and you're well-regarded, maybe now is the time to leverage that reputation and tell a story that resonates with the customers.

@anotherkiwiguy i have an LLC and i've learned the hard way that credit is a bad idea.if your business idea is good, there's no need for loans. i realise i'm oversimplifying but... if your friends believe in the business, they're likely to purchase stocks in it.

@anotherkiwiguy i can't say that with authority but i have a friend i lunch with weekly who is the CEO of a business with some ~90 employees and he doesn't like to have his business take up loans either.

@anotherkiwiguy one of the things i learned from him is how surprisingly hard it is to keep a business going.you'd think that a business of that size could take things for granted, but no, he gets stressed out about bills too...

@thor@berserker.town I understand. One of my best friends was a CEO for a large corp as well. He helped me focus and get the shop open in the first place. I will take a lesson from this.
