@cipper @codewiz uh, I'm out of the patent loop - what do we have in EU that helps?Also, if I understand correctly, this has to do with codecs, not drivers, right? Doesn't matter if it's nvidia or amd card?

@zladuric @cipper Yes, the MPEG LA is mainly to blame for assembling pools of patent to extract royalties on implementations of H264 and H265, even opensource ones:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MPEG_LA#H.264/MPEG-4_AVC_licensorsUntil the patents expire, the only option is using royalty-free formats such as VP8 / VP9 / AV1.
