Another mark against “OMG NEW URBANISM AND SMALL PLOT PERMACULTURE” types is the fact they don’t even begin to acknowledge the existence of pests. I’ve got a great setup and I am specifically referring to my apple trees here but this applies broadly; TOTAL SQUIRREL DEATHI am forgiving because everything is young and my yields are expected to be low but I wanted at least a few this year. Instead the grey little niggers have been knocking them off since summer, spoiling them even for themselves since they were too tart. They just got my last one, next year is going to be a squirrel bloodbath.

@TurboNormie Little trick. Box traps, use bait that targets them specifically otherwise you run the risk of capturing stuff other than squirrels. Black walnuts in their shells work fantastic for this purpose. The rest is easily accompilshed with a pellet gun, or thick leather gloves and a hammer.

@TurboNormie one of my dogs absolutely lives to hunt the tree niggers. she will tree one and keep it there for hours waiting for a chance to chase it again. shes accidentally killed two and since then they no longer go in the back yard.
